'Speakeasy'

Made during listening to Jazz music. ‘Speakeasy’ is an original painting that fuses abstract realism with a modern urban aesthetic, created to evoke a deep emotional response. This expressive artwork showcases a stylized female figure immersed in fluid, cocktail-inspired forms, merging elegance with rebellion. The contrast of soft textures and bold brushstrokes creates a dreamlike, cinematic feeling, as if the viewer is catching a fleeting glimpse of a moment lost in time.

The title Speakeasy references the secret bars of the 1920s Prohibition era in the United States, hidden venues where creativity, music, and self-expression thrived behind closed doors. These underground spaces were not only places to escape, but safe havens for those who refused to conform. In this painting, the vibrant flow of colors and surreal cocktail imagery symbolize that same hidden energy, freedom, transformation, and beauty found beyond the surface.

Gemaakt tijdens het luisteren naar Jazzmuziek. ‘Speakeasy’ is een origineel schilderij in de stijl van abstract realisme met een moderne, stedelijke uitstraling. Dit krachtige kunstwerk toont een vrouwelijke figuur die zich verliest  in een surrealistisch, cocktailachtig kleurenspel. De combinatie van vloeiende vormen, dynamiek en gelaagde emoties zorgt voor een intrigerend beeld dat zowel kwetsbaarheid als kracht uitstraalt.

De titel Speakeasy verwijst naar de geheime bars uit de jaren 1920 in de Verenigde Staten, waar mensen samenkwamen om jazz te luisteren, te dansen en zichzelf te kunnen zijn,  ondanks het alcoholverbod. Deze locaties waren bolwerken van vrijheid, creativiteit en verzet tegen de gevestigde orde. In dit schilderij staat die sfeer centraal: het gevoel van bevrijding, van jezelf kunnen uiten zonder oordeel, van schoonheid die juist ontstaat in het verborgene.

In deze visuele vertaling gebruik ik de symboliek van het glas en de vloeibare vormen om die verborgen lagen van de ziel te tonen. 'Speakeasy' nodigt de kijker uit om achter het zichtbare te kijken en contact te maken met het innerlijke – met wat normaal gesproken onuitgesproken blijft.
Dit schilderij past bij liefhebbers van moderne, betekenisvolle en karaktervolle kunst en is een krachtig statement in elk interieur.
